Kiln Formed glass was first developed in Mesopotamia and Egypt 4000 years ago. Fused glass fell out of use about 2000 years ago with the development of blown glass because it was a slower and more restrictive method of forming glass. Inspired by the beauty of ancient glass treasures unearthed in the Egyptian tombs, artisans of kiln-formed glass have only just reemerged again in the 20th Century.

The kiln-formed or fused glass technique involves cutting designs from sheets of stained glass and then fusing, molding, slumping, painting and texturing the glass by firing it in a kiln. Each piece is fired 2-4 times for 12 hours/firing. The temperature ranges from 1200-1500 degrees.

Rebecca gets her inSPIRITion from tribal and primitive cultures around the world. She is especially attracted to cave art as, it is our earliest form of sacred art that is still in existence. She chooses images for her work that have meaning beyond the aesthetic beauty of the image. In her work, she wants to share the values, spirituality and symbolism of cultures that revered mother earth and strove to connect with her living spirit. Rebecca also loves images from those cultures that celebrate the goddess and, in reproducing these images, she hopes we will remember the awesome beauty and power of being women.
